This technology utilises control algorithms to aggregate local energy generation, storage and demand to help fulfil demand side energy requirements. A commercial pilot of this system at Manchester Science Park is described in this section.
Manchester Science Park (MSP) energy usage costs are usually in excess of £1.5M per annum. The CVPP system works within this setting to reduce energy usage by peak shaving overall demand, facilitates demand side response and acts to increase triad cost reduction.
The buildings are equipped with smart meters and the collected data is monitored using a combination of STARK and TEAM software. Both platforms provide a dashboard for storing all usage data information in a single place and collates energy consumption across each building to allow us to enable tracking of a number of Key Performance Indicators (e.g. control consumption, energy cost or carbon emissions).
This CVPP installation utilised only 6% of MSP car park and could result in over £14,000 per year of savings on utility expenditure.
The CVPP project is currently undertaking studies on utilising EVs to provide a Firm Frequency Response (FFR) service.
